simSCADA simulates SCADA I/O on a massive scale, allowing for complete simulation of the entire field complement of the largest of SCADA systems, via the native protocols they support.

Opal Software has been providing SCADA simulation and testing solutions for many years. It developed the concept of using a "plug-compatible" simulation of all field I/O as a means of testing and commissioning SCADA systems and providing training for end users.

The simSCADA product arose out of this concept, and is today providing a comprehensive testing and training platform for many SCADA system users around the world. 

simSCADA was developed to:

• Provide a means of thoroughly testing new SCADA systems by revealing stability and performance problems that cannot be identified by simple functional testing, before the cutover phase begins.
• Provide a means of testing existing SCADA systems which are being expanded or upgraded, or to test the systems under extreme load conditions.
• Reduce the time taken to perform cutover, by testing the validity of the data migration from the old SCADA system to the new SCADA system.
• Eliminate, or significantly reduce, the need for field-based point-to-point testing, by providing a bench equivalent of the entire field I/O, thus allowing for large cost savings on new SCADA implementation projects.
• Allow for the easy production of all commissioning sheets and other reporting requirements for cut in of new and existing sites.
• Provide a low cost, comprehensive, simulation system for operator training, and proof of concept during prototyping.
